Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

If you have a question or need help with your flydubai booking, you can find many of the answers here.

Choose a category below to find answers to some of the most commonly asked questions. Once you’ve chosen a category, click on a question to display the answer.

1. About your flight

Why doesn’t flydubai allow unaccompanied minors to fly?

Answer:

We can't offer a consistent service for unaccompanied minors across all our locations, so rather than compromise your experience, we’ve decided not to offer the service.

What happens if I miss my flight?

Answer:

We can’t offer you a refund or an alternative flight if you miss your flight for any reason, unless you’re travelling on a Free to Change fare. If you have booked a Free to Change fare, you'll receive a refund as a flydubai voucher less AED 365 per person, per flight.

What happens if I’m denied travel?

Answer:

If you’re denied boarding on a flight for which you have a valid booking confirmation, you'll be entitled to travel on the next available flydubai flight. You’ll also get refreshments and a flydubai voucher refunding the total amount of your booking.

I’m pregnant. Are there restrictions on when I can fly?

Answer:

You can fly with flydubai as normal up to the end of your 27th week of pregnancy. After that, you can only fly with us if you give us a medical report or letter (signed or stamped by a doctor or midwife considered sufficiently qualified by us) stating:

  • the exact number of weeks you have been pregnant
  • your expected date of delivery
  • that the state of the pregnancy is normal and confirming that you are fit to fly for the duration of the booked flights

The medical report or letter must be written in English and the date it’s issued must not be more than 7 days before the departure date.

You can’t fly with us after end of the 35th week of pregnancy. If you’re planning a return flight with us it must be before this.

If you’re expecting a multiple birth, such as twins or triplets, you can fly with us up to the end of your 32nd week of pregnancy. If you’re planning a return flight with us, it must be before this.

2. On board

Why can’t I take a bird or animal on board?

Answer:

We don't allow birds or animals on board because of the extra time it would involve in cleaning the aircraft. More time on the ground would ultimately mean higher fares.

Can I take liquids in my hand baggage?

Answer:

You can take up to 100 ml of liquids on board, but check with your departure airport for the latest information.

Is there any medical equipment available on board?

Answer:

Yes. There’s a first-aid kit and first-aid oxygen on the aircraft.

Is there food available on board?

Answer:

Yes. We offer a selection of branded snacks, as well as soft and alcoholic drinks to buy on board.

Can I take a stroller on board?

Answer:

No. Strollers need to be checked into the aircraft hold. There’s no charge for this.

What should I do if I leave something on the plane?

Answer:

If you lose something on board, contact the arrival airport’s lost property department.

Can I travel with fireworks, crackers or party poppers?

Answer:

No. They are not permitted on board or in the baggage hold.

Can I smoke on board?

Answer:

No. All flydubai aircraft are non-smoking.

Can I take a powered wheelchair on board or will you carry it in the hold?

Answer:

No. Powered wheelchairs need to be transported upright in the aircraft hold or the batteries need to be separated and the wheelchair stored flat. As space is limited in the hold of a Boeing 737, there’s a strong possibility that the wheelchair or batteries would be damaged, so we don’t carry them.

3. Tickets and fares

Can I change the name of a passenger on my booking?

Answer:

No. We don’t allow name changes.

Does flydubai issue tickets?

Answer:

We’ll issue you with an electronic booking confirmation once your booking has been paid for.

Does flydubai offer child discounts?

Answer:

No, unless it’s for an infant sharing a parent’s seat. If we offered child discounts, adult fares would have to rise to compensate.

However, there are some differences in taxes for children, so if your child is more than 2 years old and less than 12 (for the whole duration of their journey) you should book them as a child. The fare will be the same as an adult fare, but the taxes might be lower.

I made my booking online – where can I change or cancel it?

I made my booking through the call centre – where can I change or cancel it?

I made my booking through a travel shop– where can I change or cancel it?

Answer:

You can change or cancel your booking through the travel shop who made the original booking or through the flydubai call centre

Can I choose my seat before I fly?

Answer:

Yes. Pre-booking a seat costs from AED 5, or AED 100 for a seat with an extra 22cm of legroom.

How can I get a group fare?

Answer:

More than 9 people travelling together are classified as a group. Depending on demand, special group fares may be available on some routes. You can book a group fare through the call centre

What types of fare does flydubai offer?

Answer:

We offer three types of fare.

  • Special offer fare: this fare includes a checked baggage allowance and once booked can be amended for an additional fee of AED 150 per person, per flight or cancelled for a charge of AED 200 per person, per flight (up to 24 hours before departure).  These fares are only available on selected routes during certain special offer periods.

  • Pay to Change fare: have the freedom to change your flight for a charge of AED 150 per person, per flight, or cancel your flight for a charge of AED 200 per person, per flight (up to 24 hours before departure). These fares  will not be displayed for all routes.

  • Free to change fare: this fare includes a checked baggage allowance (20 kg) for a little extra. Opt for this fare and the AED 150 charge will be waived if you decide to change your flight (up to 24 hours prior to departure). You only pay the difference in fare. If you change or cancel your flight less than 24 hours before departure (or don't make your flight) the charge is AED 365 per person, per flight. These fares are always available on every route.

Can I get a refund on my fare?

Answer:

We don’t offer cash refunds because of processing costs, but if you have a Pay to Change or Free to Change fare and decide to cancel your flight, we will issue a voucher to use for future travel with flydubai.

Why couldn’t I get the lowest fare?

Answer:

flydubai fares rise as more seats are sold. Seats are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. If you can't get the lowest fare, it simply means one of your fellow passengers has got there first.

4. Payment

Can I pay cash for my booking?

Answer:

Yes, you can make a cash payment through one of flydubai’s payment partners. Your booking will be held for up to 24 hours to give you time to pay.

If you’re booking less than 48 hours before departure, you must pay for your booking immediately.

flydubai's payment partners include UAE Exchange, Emirates Post, Emirates NBD and Dubai Islamic Bank in the UAE.

Find a payment partner near you

Can I pay using a credit/debit card?

Answer:

Yes, for a small fee. If you pay with your credit/debit card, flydubai will ask to see it at the airport before you board your flight.

  • If a credit/debit card has been used to pay on behalf of someone else, we’ll need to see a photocopy of the front of the credit/debit card and a photocopy of the cardholder's passport at the airport.
  • If you can’t produce these photocopies at the airport, flydubai will not allow you to travel. This is an extra level of security designed to protect you.

Credit/debit cards can’t be used to pay on behalf of someone else travelling to or from Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka or Sudan.

What is 3D Secure: Verified by Visa and MasterCard® SecureCode™?

Answer:

flydubai is dedicated to making your online payment safe and secure. That’s why we've added an extra level of security for payments with Visa or MasterCard. This protects you against unauthorised use of your credit card.

3D secure is a credit card authentication created by Visa and MasterCard for online use and designed to protect your online purchases. This authentication ensures that even in the case of lost or stolen card, your card cannot be misused online without the knowledge of your IPIN code. When completing an online transaction, you must verify your IPIN along with the rest of your credit or debit card details.

Verified by Visa (VBV) is a new service from VISA that lets you shop securely online with your existing Visa Card. Usable only on Verified by Visa sites, this service through a simple checkout process, confirms your identity when you make purchases.

MasterCard® SecureCode™ is an easy to use, secured online payment service that lets you shop securely. This service through a simple checkout process, confirms your identity when you make purchases on the Internet.

How does 3D Secure work?

Answer:

After you enter your credit card details you are requested to enter your personal security code. Your financial institution will authenticate the transaction within seconds, and confirm that you are the individual making the purchase.

It is important for you to understand that the 3D Secure pages are controlled by your card issuing bank and not by flydubai. flydubai will not be able to advise you what to enter here. This is confidential information that only you should know. There are clear instructions on the page to inform you what to enter and where.

How do I get a 3D Secure IPIN?

Answer:

If you don't yet have a Verified by Visa or MasterCard SecureCode, you must apply for a 3D Secure IPIN with the bank that issued your credit card, as each bank has its own process.

What happens if I enter my credit card details incorrectly?

Answer:

If you have already enrolled and you enter the details incorrectly, your payment will either be:

  • declined and you will see a message on the final checkout page displaying this
  • you will not be able to complete the transaction process and you will be unable to move from the secured page.

In the event that this should happen, we would recommend that you contact your card issuing bank immediately.

What happens if I have forgotten my log in details?

Answer:

Please select "forgotten details" or such like from within the secured page. You will need to follow the instructions that your bank give you.

What happens if I cancel the transaction?

Answer:

Your credit card will not be charged. You will be taken back to the payment options page and you can choose to pay with an alternate credit card or through one of our payment partners.

Any other questions?

Answer:

If you have any other questions regarding this process, please contact your card issuing bank for assistance.

5. Baggage

Other airlines offer an allowance for checked baggage. Why is flydubai different?

Answer:

Carrying a luggage in the hold increases fuel burn and ground handling costs. So, if you help flydubai reduce these costs by travelling light, flydubai won't make you pay for them. It's only fair.

What happens if I arrive at the airport and have not already bought a baggage allowance?

Answer:

If you haven’t bought a checked baggage allowance, you'll be charged a per kilo rate provided there’s space in the hold for your bags

Up to 4 hours before departure, you get a discount if you buy a checked baggage allowance online or through the call centre.

What happens if my bag is overweight?

Answer:

If there’s enough space in the hold for your bag, you'll be charged a per kilo rate depending on your destination.

What happens if I arrive with more than 3 pieces of checked baggage?

Answer:

If you've pre-purchased a 20 kg, a 30 kg or a 40 kg checked baggage allowance, you can check-in up to 3 pieces.

The combined weight of all pieces must not be more than your pre-purchased checked baggage allowance. No single piece should be larger than 75 cm x 55 cm x 35 cm or weigh more than 32 kg.

Provided there’s space in the hold for them, extra weight or pieces of luggage will be charged at a per kilo weight, even if the total weight for all pieces is less than the allowance you purchased.

How big can my bag be?

Answer:

Each piece must not be larger than 75 cm x 55 cm x 35 cm or weigh more than 32 kg.

When is the latest I can arrive at the gate before departure?

Answer:

You must be at the departure gate no later than 45 minutes before your flight departs. If you arrive later than this, you won’t be able to travel and we won’t offer a refund.

What time does check-in open?

Answer:

The flydubai check-in opens 3 hours before any scheduled departure.

What happens if I arrive at the gate with an over-sized or overweight bag?

Answer:

You can check in over-sized hand baggage at the flydubai check-in desk. You’ll be charged at a per kilo rate.

6. flydubai vouchers

Can I use my voucher after the expiry date?

Answer:

No. You must use the voucher within 12 months. After this, it can’t be used and there’s no cash refund.

I’ve lost my voucher number / PIN. How can I find out what they are?

Answer:

You’ll need to contact the call centre. They will re-send the voucher and PIN to your email address. You’ll need to have your original booking reference.

Can I use my voucher with a flydubai travel partner?

Answer:

Yes. You can use your voucher to book through any channel.

What if my voucher is worth more than the fare I want to buy?

Answer:

Any difference between the fare and the value of the voucher will be saved on the same voucher. You can use it for future travel with flydubai.

Can I use the voucher to make a booking for someone else?

Answer:

Yes, as long as you (the named voucher holder) travel with the other passenger on the same booking.
