Airline Operations

As one of the initial pilots to join flydubai, you will play a lead role in the establishment of the airline, flying a fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft. In total, an order has been placed for 54 B737NG aircraft. Captains recruited initially will be required to fly in both the left and right seats until such time as First Officer recruitment commences.

As flydubai is a short haul airline, average flight leg length is predicted to be between 2-5 hours, operating multiple flights each day. It is expected there will be limited over -nights within the flydubai operating network.

Those interested in becoming a Training Captain (TRE) with flydubai will be chosen from the initial cadre of Captains employed. The selections will be made during the pilot training phase prior to the commencement of flydubai's scheduled flight operations.

Minimum Requirements

Captains:
  • B737 Type Rating is required
  • A minimum of 5,000 hours total flying time
  • A minimum of 500 hours in command in B737 type aircraft
  • A minimum of 1,500 hours in command of a multi-crew, multi-engine aircraft (jet or turboprop) in excess of 10 tonnes
  • ICAO ATPL
  • 1st Class Medical
  • English language fluency ICAO level 4 or above
  • Actively seeking Captains with training experience. TRI/TRE/Standards Captain. A solid background in B737 training would be highly advantageous
First Officers:
  • A minimum of 2,500 hours total flying time
  • A minimum of 500 hours in command of a multi-crew, multi-engine aircraft (jet or turboprop) in excess of 10 tonnes
  • ICAO ATPL
  • 1st Class Medical
  • English language fluency ICAO level 4 or above
  • Type rating would be advantageous

Employment Package

All salaries will be tax-free and paid in local currency (1 US$ = 3.66 UAE Dirham) on a monthly basis.

Variable Pay:

Callout Pay - If you work on a non-rostered day, you shall receive an additional AED 350 per day.

Flying Pay - You shall receive an additional AED 150 for every block-flying hour you work.
* Whilst initially flying hours will be variable and less frequent as the airline establishes itself, once in full operation it is expected that pilots will be working approximately 80 block-flying hours per month.

Bond - You will be contractually tied to flydubai with a training bond of US$ 24,000 for a period of 36 months.

Location - All employees are permanently based in Dubai, one of the world's most dynamic cities.

Medical/Dental Insurance - Free private health insurance for yourself and subsidised cover for your spouse and up to three children.

Employee Insurance Benefits - The insurance benefits for our pilots include Loss of License cover up to AED 1,000,000 and Life and Accident cover up to AED 1,200,000.

Annual Leave - 42 calendar days per year.

Annual Leave Ticket - You shall receive a free confirmed economy class ticket for yourself, spouse and up to 3 children to your annual leave destination (which shall be confirmed during the selection process).

End of Service Benefit - The end of service benefit is as per the UAE's labour law, which entitles you to the following:
1-5 years service, you receive 21 days basic salary for each completed year of employment.
5+ years service you receive 30 days basic salary for each completed year of employment.

Children's Educational Support - Applicable for a maximum of three children aged between 4 - 18 years, in full-time education. For primary schooling, you shall receive a reimbursement up to the value of AED 30,000 per annum. Secondary schooling is reimbursable up to the value of AED 45,000 per annum.

Type Rated Examiners (TRE)

Pilots selected/appointed to a position of TRE at flydubai will receive a monthly salary component of an additional AED 3000 per month. TREs will provide their expertise in the establishment of the standardisation, policies and procedures for flydubai. Flights flown in the capacity as a TRE will be paid at the individual Captain's pay rate.

The Selection Process

All candidates are requested to send their CV to pilotapplications@flydubai.com for review. Applicants shall receive an auto-generated response acknowledging receipt of their application and requesting an additional application form be completed and returned within 72 hours.

Please note at this time we are only reviewing Captain applications and shall retain First Officers applications in our database for review at a later date.

Applications will be reviewed and candidates selected for interview based on their relevant experience and suitability. Those to be invited for Captain interviews will be contacted by the flydubai pilot recruitment team. If applicants applying for Captain positions are not contacted within 4 weeks of submitting their application, they can assume that on this occasion, their application has been unsuccessful.

The selection process is held in Dubai. flydubai shall provide candidates with a free ticket from an Emirates Airline network destination to Dubai, additional travel arrangements shall be at the candidate's expense.

Once in Dubai, flydubai shall provide hotel accommodation for the candidates whilst attending the selection programme.

The programme itself is a two-stage process, Day 1 consisting of a welcome brief, an occupational aptitude/cognitive assessment and a simulator assessment. At the end of the day, candidates will be notified if they have been successful in the first stage of the assessment and will continue onto the second day of the programme. Day 2 involves a comprehensive human resources brief, psychometric evaluation, panel interview and a medical check. A complete itinerary shall be provided to candidates on their arrival in Dubai.

Following completion of the full selection programme, a decision of suitability will be made and candidates advised within 4 weeks. Offers will be subject to suitable references being obtained and other pre-joining requirements being met.
