Top things to see and do in Bahrain
- Take a speedboat to the Hawar Islands and enjoy a day at the hotel resort there. Jet-skiing, volleyball, tennis and snorkelling are just a few of the sports on offer, plus you can have fun with the kids at the water park and relax on the pristine beaches.
- Shop for souvenirs in the lanes of the Manama souk, browse the department stores of Bahrain Mall or hunt for bargains at the Isa Town flea market.
- See desert creatures of Bahrain including Arabian oryx and Persian gazelle when you visit the Al Areen wildlife park and reserve, 20km from the capital, Manama.
- Take a drive along the King Fahad Causeway which links Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. It’s one of the longest bridges in the world between two countries. Remember you’ll probably need a visa if you actually want to go into Saudi Arabia.

Visit the famous ancient Bahrain burial mounds – there are up to 20,000 of them left in the country.
Some of the most interesting examples can be found in A'ali village where you’ll see mounds up to 80ft high.
You can get around Bahrain by private car hire or taxi. Several international hire car companies are readily available at the airport and in the city. You can also arrange for a car hire at certain hotels. Taxis are metred and are widely available. You can flag down a taxi or have your hotel arrange one for you. Shared taxis are available too, however they have specific pick up points and are not metred. Travel by bus in Bahrain is cheap but routes can be difficult to understand especially if you are not familiar with the city.
