Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) is an annual event that is geared toward families and children. This is an exciting time to visit Dubai because there are activities, fun events and sales at most of the malls and retail outlets. For 2016, this much-anticipated festival which runs from July 9 to August 20, will also be packed with live concerts and unique events.
Dubai is known for being a shopping hub, so visitors will find sales, promotions and events at many of the city's bustling retail hubs. The Dubai Shopping Malls Group, of which Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates and City Centre are members, is running surprise giveaways with incredible prizes, including 12 Infiniti Q 50 automobiles that will be awarded to lucky shoppers. There is also an "Eat and Play" promotion taking place in participating mall restaurants, which will award diners with instant gift vouchers. Dubai Duty Free, the Paris Gallery, and other stores are also running exciting promotions and sales.
During Dubai Summer Surprises, a large variety of interactive events will be held for children. In Dubai Mall's Star Atrium, there is an interactive adventure tour based on the popular children's book ‘The Gruffalo'. At Mercato Mall in Jumeirah, fun for the entire family awaits at the Mercato Circus Fiesta. The fiesta will host a whole series of family events, including the Circo Latino, the Kids Circus Workshop, and the Beijing Chinese Circus.
Fans of the 2016 Olympics and the Barbie brand can experience both at the "Barbie, The Athlete" event at the Dragon Mart 2 Mall on Al Awir Road from August 1 to August 20. The same mall is holding a Trash Pack workshop and live show from August 1 to August 10, with lively characters entertaining all while providing an important message about protecting the environment and recycling.
If your children love music, head to the Mall of the Emirates for live ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks’ concerts from July 27 to August 2. Children will be able to take part in a workshop before the concert and even meet the lively characters. At the Ibn Battuta Mall from July 15 to July 25, a ‘My Little Pony’ event will feature a live show with dancing, singing, and laughter from the popular characters.
For curious children who want to try something new, consider some of Dubai's more unique children's activities. At the Dubai Mall's Star Atrium from August 5 to August 20, the "Save Our Summer" event includes fun, interactive activities such as live performances, educational workshops, and fashion shows. At Dragon Mart 2 the week of July 14, you and your family can play life-sized Hasbro board games.

At the heart of this popular children's festival, the lively Modhesh character is meant to represent fun. There is a wide variety of games, including mini-bowling, a pyramid smash, fishing for frogs, a mirror maze, balloon popping, and a roller ball.
