Travel restrictions to Bulgaria

Who can travel?

  • Open to citizens of Bulgaria and their family members
  • Open to citizens and residents of the United Arab Emirates
  • Open citizens and residents of Republic of Austria, Federal Republic of Germany, Republic of Estonia, Iceland, Republic of Lithuania, Republic of Poland, Slovak Republic, Hungary, Republic of Finland, Republic of Croatia, Kingdom of Denmark, Italian Republic, Republic of Slovenia, French Republic, Kingdom of Norway, Kingdom of Norway Vatican City, Swiss Confederation, Czech Republic and Romania
  • Citizens of the Member States of European Union (EU), United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, countries of The Schengen Agreement (San Marino, Andorra, Monaco and the Vatican City State) and members of their families (including persons actually living with them); citizens of Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, Uruguay, the United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, Northern Macedonia, Serbia, Albania, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Moldova, Israel, Kuwait, Belarus and Turkey
  • Persons with the status of permanent, long-term residence on the territory of Bulgaria and the members of their families; persons holding a Bulgarian long-stay visa type "D", as well as persons holding a residence permit in a Member State of the European Union, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, or in a Schengen country (including San Marino, Andorra, Monaco and Vatican City State) and their family members
  • Passengers with a "D" visa issued by Bulgaria
  • Passengers with a diplomatic, official or service passport travelling on duty, and their family members
  • Passengers with an Alien's passport issued by Estonia and Latvia
  • Passengers travelling as students
  • Deadheading crew
  • Military personnel

COVID-19 restrictions :

All passengers must hold a printed copy of a negative COVID-19 PCR test result taken no more than 72 hours before arrival. This does not apply to:

  • Passengers arriving from Andorra, Argentina, Bangladesh, Belize, Bhutan, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Cyprus, Dominican Rep., El Salvador, Fiji, Georgia, Guatemala, India, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Maldives, Malta, Mongolia, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, Netherlands, Oman, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Seychelles, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, United Kingdom, Uruguay or Zambia must present:
    • a negative COVID-19 PCR test result certificate from a test taken no more than 72 hours prior to arrival, written in Latin characters; or
    • a negative COVID-19 rapid antigen test result certificate from a test taken no more than 48 hours prior to arrival, written in Latin characters
  • This does not apply to:
    • citizens and residents of Bulgaria, and their family members;
    • merchant seamen;
    • students residing in and arriving from Greece, North Macedonia (Rep.), Romania, Serbia, Turkey
  • Passengers arriving from a country other than Andorra, Argentina, Austria, Bangladesh, Belize, Bhutan, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cuba, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Dominican Rep., El Salvador, Estonia, France, Fiji, Finland, Georgia, Germany, Guatemala, Hungary, Iceland, India, Italy, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lithuania, Malaysia, Maldives, Malta, Mongolia, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, Netherlands, Norway, Oman, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Romania, San Marino, Seychelles, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, United Kingdom, Uruguay, Vatican City (Holy See)  or Zambia, must present: 
    • a COVID-19 vaccination certificate showing that they were fully vaccinated at least 14 days before arrival. Vaccines accepted are: AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria), Janssen, Moderna (Spikevax), Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty), Sinopharm, Sinovac and and Sputnik V; or
    • a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken at most 72 hours before arrival; or 
    • a negative COVID-19 antigen test taken at most 48 hours before arrival; or
    • a COVID-19 recovery certificate issued at least 11 days and at most 180 days before arrival
  • This does not apply to:
    • nationals and permanent residents of Bulgaria, and their family members;
    • merchant seamen;
    • students arriving from Greece, North Macedonia (Rep.), Romania, Serbia, Turkey;
    • minors younger than 13 years
  • Passengers could be subject to quarantine for 10 days. This does not apply to:
    • passengers arriving from Austria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Vatican City (Holy See),  with:
      • a COVID-19 vaccination certificate showing that they were fully vaccinated at least 14 days before arrival. Vaccines accepted are: AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria), Janssen, Moderna (Spikevax), Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty), Sinopharm, Sinovac and and Sputnik V; or

Guideline COVID-19
  • All travelers are required to wear face masks at the airport and during flights
  • All travelers must complete the passenger information form when arriving in Bulgaria
  • All travellers and airline crew members will undergo a medical examination and those showing symptoms will have tests performed
Is Bulgaria open for Tourists?

For tourism purposes, tourists from 87 countries can travel to Bulgaria by a document showing:

  • Passengers must hold a printed copy of a negative COVID-19 PCR test result taken no more than 72 hours before arrival
  • COVID-19 vaccination certificate stating that they received the vaccine at least 14 days before arrival
  • Rapid antigen test is taken at least 15 days and at most 180 days before arrival
