Special baggage

Smart bags have integrated lithium batteries that allow charging external devices, GPS tracking, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, self-weighing, and digital locking.

You can carry a smart bag as both hand and checked baggage, provided you meet the following restrictions:

¹Smart bags are accepted as hand or checked baggage if the device can be completely switched off (not in sleep or hibernation mode).

²Smart bags with a removable lithium battery (not exceeding 160Wh) are permitted as hand or checked baggage, provided the battery is removed. All removed batteries must be carried on board by the passenger inside their hand baggage. It must be protected from activation and packed securely to prevent short-circuiting or damage.

Restrictions on ridable suitcases and small vehicles with lithium-ion batteries

Ridable suitcases and small vehicles, regardless of whether the battery is attached or removed, are forbidden for carriage in hand and checked baggage.

Prohibited devices include, but not limited to:

• Hoverboards
• Mini-segways
• Balance wheels
• Motorised ridable scooters
• Ridable suitcases (including Airwheel)
• Solo wheels
• Other self-balancing scooters

Important: Any electric motorised bag or ridable suitcase will not be accepted for carriage. If you bring it to the airport, you will be refused carriage at check-in and it will be your responsibility to arrange for storage or disposal of such items prior to boarding.

As hand baggage

You can carry small musical instruments as hand baggage if they do not exceed our hand baggage weight and dimensions.

On a separate seat

If your musical instrument exceeds our hand baggage dimensions, you’ll need to buy an additional seat (subject to availability) in the same class of travel to store the instrument next to you during your flight. 

This service is available only in Economy Class.

How to book:

• When booking online, via our website or mobile app, add one adult for every extra seat required. A maximum of one additional seat can be booked per passenger.
• For the first adult passenger, enter your first and last name as they appear in your passport.
• For the second passenger:
  • In the first name field, enter CBBG.
  • In the last name field, use the same last name as the passenger who requested the extra seat.

Size and weight limits for cabin baggage on a seat:

• The maximum weight allowed is 75 kg.
• The maximum size must not exceed the seat’s headrest size: 55 cm (H) × 45 cm (W) × 40 cm (D).
• For musical instruments taller than 55 cm but less than 140 cm in height, they may still travel in the cabin if a seat is purchased. Maximum dimensions allowed are:
  • 140 cm (H from the floor) × 45 cm (W) × 40 cm (D).
  • The item must be able to be securely fastened using a seatbelt or an extension belt.

Important:

• You must notify flydubai at least 4 hours before scheduled departure and before completing online check-in if you have booked a cabin baggage on the seat by calling the Customer Centre on (+971) 600 54 44 45.
• The additional seat must be booked on a window seat adjacent to the passenger who booked the extra seat.
• Only the passenger who booked the extra seat is allowed to carry hand and checked baggage as per the booked fare rules. The additional seat is not entitled to any hand or checked baggage allowance.
• For safety reasons, passengers booking an additional seat for their cabin baggage cannot sit in rows 14, 15, 16 and 17.
• If you have already booked your flight and want to add a cabin baggage on the seat, please contact our Customer Centre on (+971) 600 54 44 45 for help.
• If your booking was made through a travel agent, please contact them directly to book your cabin baggage on the seat.
• If your booking is with one of our partner airlines, you won’t be able to buy an additional seat for cabin baggage.
• Standard fare rules apply for any changes or cancellations.
• If your booking includes connecting flights, additional seat must be added for the entire journey.

As checked baggage

You may also be able to carry large musical instruments in checked baggage if they're within our checked baggage dimensions and there is enough space in the cargo hold compartment, subject to any excess baggage rates applicable.

Firearms, including weapons intended for sporting purposes, target pistols and rifles, air guns, safari rifles and hunting rifles, as well as ammunition, may be accepted as part of your checked baggage, subject to approval and the conditions below.

• You must obtain pre-approval at least 96 hours before departureiAdditional processing time should be considered during weekends and public holidays in the country of residence and the UAE. (and not earlier than 30 days before departure) by submitting the documents listed below through our Contact us form, selecting "Firearms and ammunition" from the subject drop-down.
  
  
• An AED 300 approval fee per passenger applies for approval from Dubai Police.

Required documents

• Passenger details:
  • Copy of passport/other approved travel documents
  • Flight details and booking reference number
• Weapon details:
  • Number of firearms to be carried
  • Serial number of each weapon
  • Make/model/caliber
  • Copy of a valid firearm license/permit
• Ammunition details:
  • Quantity/rounds of ammunition
  • Weight of ammunition (in kg)
• Purpose of carriage: sports, competition, etc (for sports/competitions, an invitation letter is required)

Packing requirements

• Firearms must be completely unloaded and, where possible, dismantled.
• Firearms must be packed securely in a hard-sided gun case or a robust suitcase.
• Ammunition must be packed in a strong, sealed container inside your checked baggage and cushioned by other contents.
• Checked baggage containing ammunition must not display an "Explosive" label.
• You may carry up to 5 kg of ammunition per passenger as part of your checked baggage allowance. If your overall baggage weight, including firearms and ammunition, exceeds the allowance included in your booking, excess baggage rates will apply.
• If travelling together, each passenger must pack their own ammunition separately. The 5 kg limit applies to each checked bag.

Flights with partner airlines

Approval must be obtained from the airline operating your flight, not the airline that issued your booking/ticket.

• If your journey includes more than one flight, apply through the airline operating the first flight, e.g.:
  • If your first flight is operated by flydubai, submit your request through flydubai, even if your ticket was issued by Emirates.
  • If your first flight is operated by Emirates, submit your request through Emirates, even if your ticket was issued by flydubai.

The policies and requirements of other airlines may differ, and it is the passenger's responsibility to check the acceptance of firearms and ammunition for their entire journey.

You can carry a television (TV) as checked baggage on our flights. However, the size of the TV must not exceed more than 55 inches. Selected airports only allow TV size of 32 inches, please check with the airport(s) of your destination(s) for their rules and regulations. 

Please note: there is a handling fee for the carriage of TVs. The fee is charged per TV unit per flight and needs to be paid at the time of check-in at the airport. Weight of the TV will be considered as part of the baggage allowance mentioned in your booking.

Any medication needed during the flight, including approved injectables, e.g. insulin, should be carried in your hand baggage. Please note that while you may bring ice packs or gel ice packs to keep your medication cool, we may not be able to provide optimal storage conditions on board.

To avoid delays during your journey, we advise carrying your doctor’s prescription or a medical letter along with any necessary supporting documentation for your medications and confirming the requirements in advance with the appropriate authorities.

Bringing medications into the UAE

• Controlled medications require prior approval through the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP). You’ll need a valid doctor’s prescription, and you can bring up to a 3-month supply.
• Non-controlled prescription or over-the-counter medications do not need prior approval, but you should still carry your prescription.

If you’re unsure, check with your doctor or contact the nearest UAE Embassy or Consulate before you travel.

If you are travelling to destinations outside the UAE, please check the rules with the relevant health authority or embassy before your journey.

Generally, you won't be allowed to carry any animals onboard our flights in the cabin. You may be able to carry falcons onboard in the cabin but this requires special prior approval. Please contact our customer support team for more details.
