Your checked baggage allowance depends on your fare type. In Economy Class, you can travel with only a hand baggage on Lite fare, 20 kg checked baggage with Value fare, or 30 kg with Flex fare. If you're flying in Business Class, your allowance increases to 40 kg.

Buying extra baggage

You can easily buy additional baggage if you’d like to travel with more. The cost of baggage varies depending on the departure date, route and time of baggage purchase.

How to buy?

Online. Up to 70% cheaper:

  • When booking your flight, you can buy more baggage on the 'Optional extras' step;

  • Via Manage booking - no later than 6 hours before departure;

  • During Online check-in - between 48 and 6 hours before departure.


Other options
:

  • Call our Customer Centre - up to 6 hours before departure and before completing online check-in;

  • At one of our Travel Shops - up to 6 hours before departure and before completing online check-in.

Checked baggage guidelines

Number of items

Up to 3 pieces with a combined weight of your baggage allowance.

Size limit

Maximum 159 cm (height + width + depth). Oversized bags will not be accepted.

Weight limit

Each piece must weigh less than 32 kg.

Packing requirements

  • Bags must have at least one flat surface and no loose straps.
  • Irregular-shaped baggage without a flat surface must be placed in a box max 159 cm (height + width + depth).
  • Bags must be sturdy, securely packed, and capable of withstanding normal handling.
  • Items must not be strapped together.
  • A tag or secure label with your full name, address, and phone number must be placed both outside and inside each bag.

Important: Do not place valuables (e.g., money, jewellery, precious metals) or important documents (e.g., passports, ID, business papers) in your checked baggage.

If you're travelling with an infant and your fare includes baggage, you can bring 5kg hand baggage (must be under 55x38x20 cm) and 10kg checked baggage for the infant.

Frequently asked questions

How much baggage can I take on the flight?

All our fares include hand baggage. You can carry up to 7 kg in Economy Class, up to 14 kg in Business Class as hand baggage. For more details, please check our Hand baggage page.

Checked baggage allowance varies on the fare type you have selected.

Value fare has an allowance of 20 kg while Flex fare has an allowance of 30 kg. Business class has an allowance of 40 kg.

Lite fare category has only hand baggage allowance and Zero checked baggage allowance.

What happens if I arrive at the airport and have not already bought a baggage allowance?

If you haven't bought a checked baggage allowance, you'll be charged a per kilo rate provided there's space in the hold for your bags. You can find excess baggage rates on our Airport baggage rates page.

Can I buy extra baggage after booking my flight?

Yes, you can buy extra baggage via ‘Manage booking’ portal up to six hours before your flight. This is subject to the baggage policy and the eligibility of your booking.

What happens if I arrive to the airport with more than 3 pieces of checked baggage?

If you arrive at the airport with more than 3 pieces of checked baggage, you will need to pay a one-time handling fee to check in the extra bags. Additionally, excess baggage rates will apply if the total weight for all pieces exceeds your baggage allowance, provided there's enough space on the flight.

Can I carry my sporting equipment with me?

Yes, you can carry sporting equipment as part of your checked baggage. Size-based fees may apply, and some items require advance notice or approval.

Can I travel with a firearm or weapon when flying with flydubai?

Yes, we accept sporting weapons, firearms and ammunition as checked baggage, subject to pre-authorisation 96 hrs before departure.

A handling fee of AED 270 per item applies, plus AED 300 for Dubai Police approval.

Can I take liquids in my hand baggage?

Yes. You can take liquids on board as long as they are placed in containers of no more than 100 milliliters (3 fluid ounce) and packed in a clear zipper/slider storage bag. Please check with your departure airport for the latest information.

Can I take a bird or animal on board?

Generally, we don't allow any animals onboard our flights in hand baggage or checked baggage. We might allow carriage of falcons provided there is a special prior approval. Please contact our customer support team for more details.

I'm travelling with my baby/child, can I carry a stroller/pushchair/buggy?

Yes, you can carry one fully collapsible stroller/pushchair/buggy for free as part of your checked baggage allowance when travelling with a child or an infant on the same booking. It should be prepared/protected for travel and tagged as checked baggage at the airport check-in desk.

Can I travel with a musical instrument or valuable items?

Yes, you can travel with a valuable, delicate, or bulky item, such as a musical instrument, diplomatic bag, gold, diamonds, or other fragile belongings. You will need to book an extra seat to carry it with you in the cabin. This service is available only in Economy Class.

How to book:

  • When booking online, via our website or mobile app, add one adult for every extra seat required. A maximum of one additional seat can be booked per passenger.
  • For the first adult passenger, enter your first and last name as they appear in your passport.
  • For the second passenger:
    • In the first name field, enter CBBG.
    • In the last name field, use the same last name as the passenger who requested the extra seat.

Size and weight limits for cabin baggage on a seat:

  • The maximum weight allowed is 75 kg.
  • The maximum size must not exceed the seat’s headrest size: 55 cm (H) × 45 cm (W) × 40 cm (D).
  • For musical instruments taller than 55 cm but less than 140 cm in height, they may still travel in the cabin if a seat is purchased. Maximum dimensions allowed are:
    • 140 cm (H from the floor) × 45 cm (W) × 40 cm (D).
    • The item must be able to be securely fastened using a seatbelt or an extension belt.

Important:

  • You must notify flydubai at least 4 hours before scheduled departure and before completing online check-in if you have booked a cabin baggage on the seat by calling the Customer Centre on (+971) 600 54 44 45.
  • The additional seat must be booked on a window seat adjacent to the passenger who booked the extra seat.
  • Only the passenger who booked the extra seat is allowed to carry hand and checked baggage as per the booked fare rules. The additional seat is not entitled to any hand or checked baggage allowance.
  • For safety reasons, passengers booking an additional seat for their cabin baggage cannot sit in rows 14, 15, 16 and 17.
  • If you have already booked your flight and want to add a cabin baggage on the seat, please contact our Customer Centre on (+971) 600 54 44 45 for help.
  • If your booking was made through a travel agent, please contact them directly to book your cabin baggage on the seat.
  • If your booking is with one of our partner airlines, it won't be eligible for cabin baggage on the seat purchase.
  • Standard fare rules apply for any changes or cancellations.
  • If your booking includes connecting flights, additional seat must be added for the entire journey.

How many extra seats can I buy to use for my cabin baggage?

A maximum of one additional seat can be booked per passenger.

Can I book an extra seat to carry additional checked baggage?

No. Only the passenger who booked the extra seat is allowed to carry hand and checked baggage as per the booked fare rules. The additional seat is not entitled to any hand or checked baggage allowance.

Can I bring Zamzam water from Saudi Arabia?

If you're travelling from Jeddah, Madinah, Taif or Yanbu you can bring up to five litres of Islamic Holy Water (Zamzam water) as checked baggage in addition to your applicable baggage allowance, at no extra cost.

If you’re travelling from other cities of Saudi Arabia you can bring up to five litres of holy water, however, it will be considered as part of your checked baggage allowance. If your checked baggage exceeds the baggage allowance stated in your e-ticket or booking confirmation, you will be required to pay the excess baggage fee.

Please note, the holy water must be sealed and safely packed in government approved packaging.

Can I book an extra seat for my cabin baggage if I'm travelling with a partner airline?

No, bookings with our partner airlines aren't eligible for purchase of cabin baggage on the seat.

Can I travel with fireworks, crackers or party poppers?

No. They are not permitted on board or in the baggage hold.

How many duty-free shopping bags can I carry on board?

You may bring one duty-free shopping bag as part of your hand baggage allowance.

My baby/child needs a stroller at the airport, can I take my stroller on board the flight?

You may be allowed to take your stroller/pushchair/buggy with you up to the boarding gate where it will be collected and loaded into the aircraft cargo hold.

Fully foldable/collapsible pushchairs and strollers meeting the permissible size and weight of hand baggage may be accepted for carriage on board if there is space. If there is no space available it will have to be checked in. Upon arrival at your destination, you’ll be able to pick it up from the baggage hall in the arrivals area.

Can I carry medications on board?

Yes. Medications, including approved injectables, e.g. insulin, are permitted in your hand baggage. Please note that while you may bring ice packs or gel ice packs to keep your medication cool, we may not be able to provide optimal storage conditions on board.

To avoid delays during your journey, we advise carrying your doctor’s prescription or a medical letter along with any necessary supporting documentation for your medications and confirming the requirements in advance with the appropriate authorities.

Can I bring my medications into the UAE?

  • Controlled medications: Yes, but you must apply for prior approval through the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP). You’ll need a valid doctor’s prescription, and you can bring up to a 3-month supply.
  • Non-controlled prescription or over-the-counter medications: These do not need prior approval, but you should still carry your prescription.
  • If you’re unsure, check with your doctor or contact the nearest UAE Embassy or Consulate before you travel.

Note: If you are travelling to destinations outside the UAE, please check the rules with the relevant health authority or embassy before your journey.

Can I carry and use my power bank on board?

Yes, you can carry one power bank with a maximum rating of 100 Wh in your hand baggage, but you cannot use or charge it during the flight. Power banks must remain switched off and stored safely in your hand baggage to prevent accidental activation or short-circuiting. They are not allowed in checked baggage.

How is my baggage handled when connecting between flydubai flights?

You can transfer to another flydubai flight without collecting your baggage in Dubai.

If you book flydubai flights in separate bookings, let the check-in staff know you’re connecting in Dubai and show your onward ticket and travel documents, and your baggage will be tagged through to your final destination. Baggage will be transferred in Dubai at no additional cost.

If you book both connection flights in one booking, your baggage will be automatically tagged through to the final destination.

How is my baggage handled when connecting between flydubai and Emirates?

If your journey combines Emirates and flydubai under one booking, your baggage will be tagged through to your final destination.

Upon arrival in Dubai:

  • If you arrive at Terminal 3, please go to the central transfer desk (transfer desk K).
  • If you arrive at Terminal 2, please proceed to the main transfer desk.

How is my baggage handled when connecting between flydubai and other airlines?

If you’re connecting to or from a flight operated by another airline (codeshare or interline) on a separate ticket, you can have your baggage tagged through to your final destination when checking in (might be subject to a handling fee and taxes). 

At Dubai airport, head to the dnata transfer desk in arrivals to check in for your next flight:

  • If your baggage was tagged through to your final destination, it will be transferred at no extra cost.
  • If not, or if you’re flying with an airline that doesn’t have an interline agreement with flydubai, you’ll need to pay a baggage transfer fee to dnata.

How can I send items with flydubai Cargo?

You can transport various goods, such as general cargo, perishables, mail, valuables, or live animals, through flydubai Cargo. Drop-off and pick-up points are available at Dubai International (DXB) and Al Maktoum International (DWC) airports, and flydubai offers tailored services to meet different cargo needs.

What do I do if my baggage is delayed or missing?

If your baggage is missing on arrival of your flight, you'll need to report it to the baggage services desk at your arrival airport straight away. For more detailed information, please read our Delayed or damaged baggage page.

What is a PIR?

A PIR is a Property Irregularity Report that is given to you by the local handling agent on arrival when you report your baggage has been delayed or damaged. The unique reference number of the report helps us to track your bag and return it to you as soon as possible.

How do I receive updates about my delayed baggage?

You can find updates on the status as well as change and add details to your delayed baggage report via Manage your delayed bag report. To log in simply enter your PIR number and last name.

If 3 days after your flight, your baggage hasn't been found, please update your baggage contents via the portal. flydubai baggage team will then conduct a secondary search and contact you when they find it.

How will I receive my bag after it's been found?

Once your baggage has been found and, where local laws allow, you'll be contacted by our local handling agent to arrange delivery, subject to customs clearance. If we are unable to deliver your baggage to you, you'll be asked to collect it from our local handling agent at your arrival airport.

What do I do if my baggage is damaged?

If your baggage is damaged while you're flying with flydubai, you need to report it to the baggage services desk at your arrival airport straight away. For more detailed information, please read our Delayed or damaged baggage page.

What do I do if items in my baggage are missing?

Please report it immediately to the local handling agent or via the Contact us form, selecting ‘Baggage – delayed or damaged’ subject in the drop-down.

Do I get a compensation if my baggage is delayed or damaged?

  • If your baggage is delayed, we understand that you may need to buy some essential items such as toiletries and items of basic clothing. We'll reimburse up to USD 50 per day of delay for essential items in the form of voucher from flydubai. The maximum compensation paid is for 3 days (excluding residents of the country where the flight landed).
  • If your baggage is damaged and your claim is successful, flydubai will pay for your bag to be repaired or replaced.

What do I do if my baggage is delayed or damaged on a flight operated by another airline?

If your baggage is delayed or damaged on a flight with one of our partner airlines, please report it to the airline which operated the flight.

What do I do if I forget something on board or at the airport?

If you've forgotten or lost any of your belongings on board one of our aircraft or at the airport, please contact the lost & found office at the airport where your flight landed.
