Things to see and do in Bucharest

• Stroll down Bucharest’s oldest main street, called the Calea Victoriei (Victory Avenue), to take a step back in time into Bucharest’s royal past. It houses an interesting mix of upmarket brands dotted between historic buildings. Several cafés and eateries also line this street, making it an ideal place to add to the must-see list.
• If you are up for an adventure, go for the Old Town Bucharest: ‘The Lost Treasure’ Exploration Game, which offers a fun way to explore the Old Town area.
• Wander through the National History Museum of Romania (Muzeul National de Istorie a Romaniei), which has exhibits spread across over 60 exhibition rooms. You can also opt for a guided tour.
• Visit the peaceful Stavropoleos Monastery, built in 1724, to view and appreciate one of Bucharest’s oldest sites. The nearest metro stop to reach here is Universitate.
• Go on a guided tour to the Palace of the Parliament, the heaviest and the second-largest administrative building in the world. Some key highlights include the majestic Honor Hallway, the Pink Room and Europe’s biggest ballroom.
• Head over to the Football Museum, which is a favourite with tourists and locals alike. Spread across 8 levels, it houses a huge collection of football memorabilia. The museum also has a bistro, a café, a bubble tea bar, and a souvenir shop for fans.
• Take the metro to the impressive Arch of Triumph, which was built in 1922 to commemorate Romanian soldiers who fought in the First World War. You can take the internal stairs to reach the monument’s terrace, which offers beautiful city views. A lovely park nearby is a great place to relax.
• Be sure to taste some of Romania’s authentic dishes, including Chiftele (Romanian meatballs) and Tochitura (traditional stew in Romania), during your stay.
