The country's rich Persian history has left behind stunning examples of the empire's architecture and civilisation. One such example is Persepolis, capital of the Achaemenid Empire. Located at the foot of the Kuh-e Rahmat mountain about 60 kilometres from Shiraz, this UNESCO world heritage site features a number of stunning buildings including the magnificent Adapana palace. Persepolis is considered one of the world's greatest archaeological sites and is about a 3 hour drive from Tehran. In Esfahan, visit the music museum to learn about Iran's traditional music instruments and its culture. You can also enjoy live music at the museum.
